India has exported 7.30 lakh tonnes (LT) of meat during April-October period of the current financial year valued at USD 2,339.60 million, Parliament was informed today.

The government said that at present there is no such move to ban the export of meat.

The country had exported close to 15 lakh tonnes of meat during the last financial year, valued at USD 4,919.62 million, according to the data shared by the Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

"As per the Foreign Trade Policy, the export of beef (meat and edible offal of cows, oxen and calf) is prohibited...," the minister said.

She also informed that government has not fixed any target for export of meat of other animals in the current financial year.

"Financial assistance is provided only for export of meat and meat products (and not beef exports) under the Agriculture Export Promotion Plan Scheme of APEDA," she said.
