7 killed in landslides in China

Seven people were killed in a landslide in China's northern Shanxi Province early today.

One person was rescued.

The landslide took place in Xiguan Village of Jixian County, which is situated in a valley.

Some 2,000 cubic meters of earth and stone buried a two- story building, trapping eight people, local officials said.

Rescuers later saved one person and recovered seven bodies.

People living nearby have been asked to evacuate to a safe place, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The rescued person has been hospitalised.
