Eight persons were arrested today for allegedly creating ruckus and trying to block the passage of BSP General Secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui who was here to chalk out plans for BSP supremo Mayawati's visit to the city.

Siddiqui was to address party workers and draw up plan for BSP national president Mayawati's proposed visit to the city next month.

District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Preetinder Singh said that anticipating trouble, a large number of police officials were deployed.

The demonstrating crowd was effectively prevented from creating disturbance and blocking the road.

Members of the Kshtriya Samaj protesting against BSP leader's utterances organised the protest and showed black flags during demonstration.

Siddiqui later met the BSP activists and party leaders.

Officials said hooligans had been identified through the video footage and strict action would be taken.
