Over 800 people have been arrested in China after police launched a massive crackdown and busted 256 group for making and selling fake railway tickets ahead of the busy Spring Festival holiday season.
More than 49,000 railway tickets have been confiscated for overpriced reselling since December 10 when the crackdown was launched, railway police authorities said in a statement.
Police also seized over 120,000 counterfeit tickets and arrested 810 people, state-run Xinhua news reported today.
Nearly 397 police units have been deployed to investigate public tip-offs on possible ticket scalping cases.
Inspections around ticket booths and monitoring of online ticket selling websites have been strengthened to identify "familiar faces" waiting in line.
Website and bank accounts suspected of being used for repeat purchases have been banned.
The crackdown will last for 80 days until the end of February, covering the Spring Festival holiday when many migrate workers struggle for a ticket to go home.
