9 fishermen held for fishing despite ban

Nine fishermen from Thootur near here were today arrested for fishing in the sea off this coast in violation of the annual 45-day breeding season ban in force, police said.

Costal Marine Police personnel and Fisheries department officials arrested the fishermen and seized their mechanised boat, they added.

Fishing has been banned for 45 days to allow breeding.
