A get-together of those who had been detained under the controversial MISA during the Emergency has been organised here tomorrow and several senior politicians including former Union minister and DMK leader M Kannappan are expected to attend the event.

Some political and apolitical activists from this region were arrested during the Emergency under the controversial Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and lodged in the Central Jail here in 1976 for one year, said K Ramakrishnan, General Secretary of the 'Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam', a non-political outfit which has organised the get-together.

"To know about them and recall their jail days, a meeting is being organised at Coimbatore Press Club premises," he told PTI.

The club has been chosen as venue so as to highlight the press censorship prevailing during the period, he said.

Though 30 persons from this region were detained under MISA, only 13 members could be contacted and "this will be a re-union for various ideologies", he said.

Besides Kannappan and Ramakrishnan, former DMK MPs M Ramanathan and R Mohan; CPI(M) leaders G P Narayanasamy, Salim and Babu; Muthu from Ananda Marg, DMK activist Venkatachalam, one Vijayaraghavan and Murugesan from Tirupur, will attend the meeting.
