West Bengal state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury today mocked Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's statement on the ban on NDTV India alleging that assault on journalists by goons of her party were a regular affair in West Bengal.
"We all have protested against the ban on NDTV. But the West Bengal government has started this practice long back such as stopping of government advertisements if newspapers and channels don't sing paeans of the government. Along with this goes assault on the journalists. So when our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee protests against it, we feel surprised," Chowdhury said.
The Chief Minister yesterday criticised the central government for putting a one day ban on Hindi news channel NDTV India and said it showed that an "emergency-like situation" prevailed in the country.
"NDTV ban is shocking. If Government had issues with Pathankot coverage, there are provisions available. But ban shows an Emergency-like attitude," Banerjee had said in a statement.
