After the passing of the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill, 2017 today, private educational institutions in the state demanding huge donations from students appear to be on the radar of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee told the assembly today that she would soon call a meeting with the school representatives once the ongoing board examinations were over.

"I want to bring a policy keeping in mind both the common people and the authorities of the private educational institutions.

"We have very good private schools, colleges and universities in our state. But there are some which are charging so much ... Demand so much. I think there must be control at some point," she said.

During the meeting, Banerjee said she would ask the school representatives to chalk out a guideline working on which the state government will bring out a policy.

The state government would not interfere into the choices of people who can afford demands of those educational institutions, she added.

The West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill aims at ensuring transparency in functioning and activities of private clinical establishments.
