The All India Democratic Women's Association today staged a demonstration here demanding that the government put an end to the practice of usury prevailing in the state.
Citing yesterday's incident at Tirunelveli, in which three members of a family died after setting themselves on fire, about 20 AIDWA activists urged the government to strengthen the law so that stringent action could be taken against those indulging in usury.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi convenor Susi Kalaiyarasan also urged the government to identify those involved in the practice and take stringent action.
