Another gold haul at Bhubaneswar airport

Officials of the Customs, Air Intelligence Unit at the Biju Patnaik International Airport today seized gold weighing 249.350 grams from a passanger arriving from Bangkok.

The officials seized a bracelet and gold chain of foreign origin from the person, collectively weighing 249.350 gram and valued at Rs 7.91 lakh. The man hailed from Mohali in Punjab, the officials said.

He has been detained under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

The officials said that this was the second seizure of gold in three days. On June 15, the customs officials had recovered gold worth Rs 11 lakh from a man hailing from Kerala.

 

Several incidents of gold smuggling have been reported ever since the first international flight took off from here on April 26 last year.

On May 4, gold bars worth Rs 9.6 lakh were recovered from a passenger, and three days later another passenger was caught for carrying multiple gold bars weighing 5.82 kg worth around Rs 1.8 crore.
