An anti-polio woman health worker was kidnapped today by unidentified armed men from her house in northwestern city of Pakistan here, police said.

Around eight armed men barged into the house of Salma Farooq, held the family hostage at gunpoint and abducted the woman, police said.

The incident occurred in Guluzai village in a suburban locality here.

Enraged family members and neighbours protested the kidnapping and blocked the GT Road for about an hour, following which police assured them they will try their best to locate Salma.

The family members fear that Salma was kidnapped because of her involvement in the polio campaign and that she had no enmity with anyone.

Meanwhile, an explosion in the Landi Kotal Bazaar, a border area in Khyber Agency injured at least three people.

The injured were taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

According to Khasadar officials, the injured were the members of a religious group named as Tawheed-ul-Islam.

Soon after the blast, security forces reached to blast site, cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
