An autorickshaw driver was arrested for allegedly abetting the snatching of a woman's gold chain in the city, police said today.

The woman was walking along a road near Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) headquarters yesterday at around 7.30 PM when a person travelling in an autorickshaw alighted from the vehicle, snatched her chain and ran away, they said.

However, when the woman raised an alarm, those around caught hold of the autorickshaw driver, in whose vehicle the chain snatcher had come, Naupada police said.

Subsequently, the autorickshaw driver, identified as R G Khan (29), was arrested last night and booked under IPC sections 392 (robbery) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), police said, adding that a hunt was on for the chain snatcher.
