Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called up Union Minister Arun Jaitley and sought advice to extend assistance to flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.

Badal called up Jaitely as he was unable to establish any contact with his Jammu and Kashmir counterpart Omar Abdullah due to snapped telecommunications line in the valley.

"Badal urged Jaitely to update the state government about the requirement of relief and rescue material for the rehabilitation of the flood victims after establishing a contact with J-K government through Defence Telecom services," an official said.

Saying that the floods in Jammu and Kashmir were a national tragedy, Badal assured the Union government that the state would extend fulsome support and cooperation to the hill state in this hour of crisis.
