A day-long bandh protesting "hefty" fees collected by managements of professional colleges in the union territory passed off peacefully today.

The dawn-to-dusk bandh organised by Joint Action Committee of Students and Parents Associations partially affected normal life.

Police said the bandh went off peacefully without any untoward incident.

All privately run buses and autos were off the roads. Shops and establishments remained closed and most of private schools had declared holiday.

However, government run bus services functioned normally and attendance in government offices was also normal, official sources said.

The bandh was against the "failure" of the government to keep a tab on the private colleges in fixing fees, JAC Spokesman Narayanasamy.
