Madurai Bar Association Leaders A.K. Ramasamy and P Dharmarajan, against whom suo motu contempt proceedings were initiated by the Madras High Court, today appeared before a division bench.
Both were served with the copies of the charges framed against them enabling them to file their replies.
The bench, comprising Justice R. Sudhakar and Justice P.N.Prakash, then adjourned the matter to January 8.
A bench had earlier initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against Madurai Bar Association President Dharmarajan and Secretary Ramasamy in connection with a procession taken out by them in Madurai protesting a high court order making wearing of helmets compulsory and raising slogans against the Judge who had passed the order and also passing resolution making "defamatory" statements against almost all judges of the court.
