Barley futures gain on spot demand

Barley prices were enquired higher by Rs 11.50 to Rs 1,445 per quintal in futures trade today as traders were building up fresh positions in line with strong physical demand.

Market players said robust demand from beer makers at spot markets encouraged speculators to raise their holdings, which pushed up barley futures prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange platform, barley delivery for July bolstered by Rs 11.50 or 0.80 per cent to Rs 1,445 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,110 lots.

On a similar note, the delivery for June marked ahead by Re 1 or 0.07 per cent to Rs 1,429 per quintal, in an open interest of 12,510 lots.
