Barley prices tumbled by Rs 24 to Rs 1,396.50 per quintal in futures trading today after heavy off-loading by speculators in tune with weak physical markets.
Market players said shortening of belts by participants driven by weak physical markets, where prices faltered under pressure of heavy availability of stocks on relentless supplies from growing regions amid limited demand from beer makers, described the weak tendency in barley futures prices.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange platform, barley delivery for April contract plummeted by Rs 24 or 1.69 per cent to Rs 1,396.50 per quintal, having a business turnover of 1,840 open lots.
