Bhiwandi police officer arrested for bribery

A police officer attached to the Thane Police commissionerate was today arrested by the anti-corruption bureau while taking a bribe.

Police officer Vitthal J Chintaman (30), attached to Shanti Nagar police station under Bhiwandi division, had demanded Rs 20,000 from a person for going slow on a case registered against his father and not arresting him.

DYSP, ACB, Thane, Khanhaiya Thorat said in an official release that after a complaint was lodged, a team led by inspector Vaishali Raskar set up a trap and arrested Chintaman red-handed at the police station.

Further probe is on.
