Senior BJP leader Birender Singh and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala may not have crossed swords in the 2014 assembly polls, but Singh must be a relieved man today having avenged the defeat by proxy.
In 2009, Singh, a prominent Jat leader who was then with the Congress, had lost to INLD President Chautala by a narrow margin of 621 votes from the Uchana Kalan constituency in Jind district.
Singh in August 2014 snapped his 42-year-old association with the Congress and joined BJP. The BJP made Birender's wife Prem Lata as party candidate from Uchana Kalan.
