Senior BJP leader and former Punjab minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla today expressed "anguish" over the state government allegedly allowing anti-national activities in the state, and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to contain the situation.
Chawla expressed "deep concern" over the honouring of the family of former Chief Minister Beant Singh's assailant reportedly by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) here yesterday.
Chawla, in a letter to Modi, sought his intervention so that the situation do not go out of control.
The family member of human bomb Dilawar Singh, who had assassinated Beant Singh, was honoured at the highest Sikh temporal seat Akal Takht in the the presence of radical Sikhs.
Chawla also opposed the proposal to place the portrait of Dilawar Singh in the Sikh museum of Golden Temple.
She urged the Prime Minister to intervene in Punjab before, what she said, the situation slipped out of control as the SAD-BJP alliance government was feeling helpless to curb such activities.
She alleged that the SGPC's act of hounouring the killers of Beant Singh and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was willfully ignored by the state government.
