A BJP panchayat president and two CPI(M) workers were seriously injured in separate incidents of attacks allegedly by rival party workers in Kannur district today, police said.

In the first attack early this morning, some miscreants on five motorbikes hurled country bombs at the CPI(M) area committee office in Chackarakal destroying a Television set, furniture and the compound wall, they said.

The assailants attacked some workers sleeping inside the office injuring two of them, police said.

CPI(M) area secretary K Baskaran alleged that some RSS activists were behind the attack.

Party leaders, including Pinarayi Vijayan and district secretary P Jayarajan visited the area committee office.

In the second incident, suspected to be a retaliatory attack, BJP's Chembiladu panchayat president C P Ranjith was attacked allegedly by CPI(M) workers at Muthukutti town when he was waiting to board a bus, police said.

BJP's Dharmadam constituency president R K Giridharan alleged that CPI(M) workers were involved in the attack.

Police said prohibitory orders have been clamped for 10 days in four panchayat limits in the district.

There have been minor incidents of attacks on both CPM and BJP local offices for the last three weeks in the district.
