Black pepper strengthens in lacklustre trade

Black pepper prices extended its gains in an otherwise lacklustre trade at the spices market here today owing to persistent demand from stockist and traders.

While, all other spices ruled stable in the absence of any worthwhile buying.

Black pepper rose by Rs 5/10 per kg to Rs 705/775 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 700/765.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 705/775 (700/765), ginger bleached (per kg) 210 (210), ginger unbleached (per kg) 230 (230), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 7,400 (7,400), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 7,300 (7,300), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 17,800 (17,800), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,200 (9,200).
