BlackBerry updates OS for BB 10 devices

Canadian handset maker BlackBerry today announced an update for its BlackBerry 10 operating system, aimed at helping users to be more productive and staying better connected.

The update, available for BlackBerry 10 smartphones likes Q5, Z10 and Z30, include hundreds of new enhancements and refinements, BlackBerry said in a statement.

These include customise pinch gesture to filter BlackBerry Hub, actionable lock screen notifications and picture password for quick unlocking, it added.

The update will also help BlackBerry Z30, Q10 and Q5 smartphones to unlock the built-in FM radio in these handsets, allowing users to listen to local FM stations.

Cambium opens wireless R&D centre in B'lore * Cambium Networks, a global provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced the opening of its wireless R&D centre in Bangalore.

A key facility in Cambium Networks' global R&D network, the Bangalore centre will provide wireless research and development and local customer support for India and the Asia Pacific region, the company said.

With a number of key customers in the country, including Tata Communications and Gujarat State Government, Cambium Networks' new R&D centre is a strategic move to service the rapidly growing Indian and Asia Pacific market, it said.

Originally part of Motorola Solutions and an independent company since 2011, Cambium Networks develops cost-effective solutions delivering broadband connectivity to underserved or under-connected communities using fixed wireless access technology over unlicensed spectrum, the company said.

Synthite bags the top exporter award

* Synthite Industries Ltd, which has earned a foreign exchange of Rs 688.09 crore during 2013 calendar year, has bagged the top exporter award.

The award was received by Viju Jacob, Deputy Managing Director of Synthite at a function in Kochi last night, organised in connection with customs day.

The Kerala based Synthite Industries mainly exports spice oils and oleoresins. Olam Agro India Ltd, which came second, earned Rs 628.32 crore and Apollo Tyres ltd Rs 442.99 crore, a Customs press release said.
