An employee of a power company was arrested from West Delhi's Uttam Nagar area for allegedly accepting bribe from a customer, a senior official of Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) said today.

"The accused Ashok Kumar, employed as Field Officer in BSES, Rajdhani Power Ltd, was caught red-handed by the sleuths of ACB yesterday when he was accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant in Uttam Nagar area," Additional Commissioner of Police (ACB) P C Hota said.

According to the ACB, Kumar threatened the complainant to implicate him in a false case of electricity theft, remove his electricity meter and deem him an electricity pilferer.

Kumar had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant, who is a shop keeper, for sorting the issue.

He had finally settled for Rs 8,000. The complainant sought some time to arrange the bribe money and in the meantime approached ACB and lodged complaint against the accused.

"A trap was laid by our officials and the accused was arrested while demanding and accepting Rs 8,000 from the complainant. A case has been registered in this regard at ACB and further investigation is underway," Hota said.
