Security personnel today foiled a suspected smuggling attempt along the international border in the RS Pura sector of Jammu, an official said.

According to a BSF official, alert jawans observed some movement along the border in Abdulian area of the RS Pura sector at around 2 AM, following which they opened fire.

The firing forced two persons from the Pakistani side, who were allegedly trying to sneak across, to retreat.

The BSF official said the crossover attempt may have been for smuggling purposes.

"They also threw a packet across the Indian fence...The packet contained a mobile phone and two SIM cards with Pakistan numbers," he said, adding that a similar packet was also found on the other side of the fence.

"The packet might have been meant for Indian smugglers... However, the real purpose can only be ascertained after a proper probe. Few people have been detained in connection with the matter while police is conducting investigations," the official said.
