Businessman, wife killed as car falls into gorge

A businessman and his wife were killed after their car fell into a gorge on the Vikasnagar- Barkot road in Uttarkashi district.

The accident occurred last evening at Sarigad, between Naugaon and Damta, when Rajendra Jain (57) lost control of the car he was driving and it fell into a gorge, said a senior official.

Jain and his wife Rekha (55), both residents of Mori block in Uttarkashi, were killed on the spot, Barkot Sub- Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rohit Meena said.

Rs 9 lakh in cash and a large quantity of gold jewellery were recovered from the mangled remains of the car, he said, adding that the couple was returning from Dehradun to their village.
 

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed grief over the accident.
