A cargo vessel allegedly hit two fishing boats in the high seas and one of them sank due to the impact, police said today.
The incident occurred when a group of ten fishermen in the two boats had set out for fishing late last night and were spreading nets seven nautical miles away from Ennore Port limits in North Chennai.
A cargo vessel allegedly hit the fishing boats and due to the impact, a boat sank and the fishermen managed to reach the shore in the other boat which was also damaged partially, police said.

The fishermen have filed a complaint and also given a representation to state fishing authorities seeking compensation for the damages, they said.
The vessel is believed to be ferrying in domestic route and details like its ownership and registration were not known immediately, police said.
