The Dakshina Kannada police has registered a case against one of the survivors of the landslip at Farangipete near here under the Foreigners Act for entering the country without valid documents.
Police said the survivor, Sabikul, was identified as belonging to Mahendrapur in Bangladesh.
The landslip on July 14 had left three labourers dead. They were buried alive when a hillock caved in at a construction site while work was in progress.
Two of the deceased were also from Bangladesh, according to information given by Sabikul.
Superintendent of police S D Sharanappa said that upon confirming his citizenship the person would be deported after conviction.
The DK police have already written to Bangladesh Embassy regarding the matter. They have also informed the embassy that arrangements would be made to send the bodies of the deceased if wanted by their relatives.
Meanwhile, the police have booked a case under IPC Section 304A (causing death by negligence) against the owner and the contractor of the site.
Sources said that they would also be booked under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act for hiring labourers whose identities were not known and also for not informing the matter to police.
