Castorseed prices firmed up by Rs 60 to Rs 4,237 per quintal in futures trading today on the back of rising demand from consuming industries in the physical markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castorseed for delivery in January spurted by Rs 60, or 1.44 per cent, to Rs 4,237 per quintal, in an open interest of 13,230 lots.

On similar lines, the most-active October contracts also rose by Rs 34, or 0.85 per cent, at Rs 4,052 per quintal, having an open interest of 1,77,470 lots.

September contracts too followed suit, gaining Rs 29, or 0.73 per cent, at Rs 3,999 per quintal with an open interest of 6,140 lots.

Marketmen said rising demand from paint makers and other consuming industries in view of approaching festive season amid restricted supplies in spot markets from growing regions supported the upsurge in prices.
