"Painful" punishments like "castration" is the only way to deal with those sexually assaulting women in the country, South Indian film actress Meera Jasmine today said.

Addressing a press meet here along with actor Anoop Menon and mother of a Dalit woman who was allegedly raped and murdered at nearby Perumbavoor recently, the actress said existing laws were not adequate to deal with such crimes.

"Those who are sexually attacking women should be given painful punishment and castration is the only way to deal with such persons," she said.

"If such persons are given painful punishment, they will never dare to touch a woman in their life," the actress said.

The press conference was organised as part of promotion of her upcoming Malayalam movie on rape victims "pathu kalpanakal".
