CBI court convicts former IT inspector in a graft case

A former Inspector of the Income Tax Department has been sentenced by a special CBI to four years rigorous imprisonment and slapped him with a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh for demanding bribe from an income tax assessee.

Jai Prakash, then an Inspector, Income Tax Department was sentenced to undergo the imprisonment with fine of Rs 1.50 lakh by the Patiala House court here, a CBI spokesperson said here today.

The agency registered a case on March 20, 2015 against him alleging that he had demanded a bribe of Rs 2.50 lakh for processing the income tax assessment of the complainant for the year 2012-13.
 

"CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Jai Prakash accepting the negotiated bribe of Rs 90,000 from the complainant.

"A charge sheet was filed on September 17, 2015 under Section seven and 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI cases, Patiala House Courts," CBI spokesperson said.
