The CBI has taken over the investigation into the breach of the Munak canal in Sonepat, allegedly by rioting Jats demanding reservation last year causing a disruption in water supply to the national capital.
The CBI has registered four FIRs in the matter on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
While one FIR is against nine accused and 3,000 unidentified others, remaining three are against unidentified persons.
The breach in the Munak canal by alleged rioters demanding reservation for the Jat community had resulted in disruption of water supply to the national capital on February 21, 2016.
The Haryana police had registered four FIRs in the matter.
These FIRs have now been re-registered by the agency.
The Delhi Jal Board supplies around 900 MGD of water daily out of which around 600 MGD of raw water comes from the Munak canal.
