CBSE will be hosting this year's World Book Book fair here beginning on February 15 to encourage and inculcate among chilren the habit of reading books.

The objective behind such a initiative is for teachers, school librarians and parents to motivate children to enjoy reading and enable them to read a wide range of good quality literature, develop holistically, inculcate life skills and be better prepared to face the professional world, said a CBSE statement.

"With computer games, electronic devices and programmes battling for children's attention, educators and parents need to give children every opportunity to explore the wonders of the written word," CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi said.

Studies have found that reading for pleasure is important to a child's development, more than any other form of reading as is being done in classrooms, said CBSE.

There is good evidence to suggest that young people who read for pleasure daily perform better in all areas of school curriculum than those who never do. Through reading, they are learning life skills for their higher studies and later at the workplace, it added.
