Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) produced 61.35 million tonnes coal in 2015-16, an increase of 10.25 per cent compared to the previous fiscal.

Addressing a press conference here, CCL Chairman and Managing Director Gopal Singh said now there was no shortage of coal for power plants.

Crediting the feat for a clear policy on coal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal and their team, Singh said the power plants in the country now have a coal reserve for 40 to 70 days.

A company release said this was the highest ever production and was against the target of 60.6 MT and the feat of 55.65 MT achieved last year.

It was the second successive year for CCL to have achieved double digit growth, it said.

The financial year 2015-16 has achieved removal of overburden of 106.9 million cubic metre as against the target of 100.0 million cubic metre and last year's 97.376 million cubic metre.

The coal offtake during 2015-16 was about 59.6 MT, a growth of about eight per cent compared to last year, it said.
