The Election Commission has installed CCTV cameras in as many as 45 places in close proximity to the offices of candidates and political parties in Bellary district to ensure strict implementation of the model code of conduct, a top official said today.
The cameras will record incidents that occur round the clock within 80 metres radius and police had made arrangements to receive and transmit the recordings within 10 seconds, Bellary district Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer A A Biswas told PTI.
Loudspeakers installed along with these cameras would be used to make announcements from the control room in cases of disturbances, traffic jams and group clashes and to maintain law and order during elections, he said.
The CCTV cameras are installed in places identified as sensitive in villages, towns and cities of the district, he said, adding, the cameras would be used to get real time information on the goings on in these places and would be used to take immediate action if required.
