The Centre is planning to amend the SABLA scheme, introduced by the UPA government for empowerment of adolescent girls, with the consent of state governments, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi said.

She said here today that a meeting of education ministers will soon be convened to chalk out the modalities for amending the SABLA scheme, according to an official release.

The aim is to educate the girls on matters of health and hygiene, for one to two hours after their school timings, Gandhi said.

To improve the nutritional and health status of girls in the age group of 11 to 18 years and providing them education in life-skills, health and nutrition, the UPA government had introduced the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls - SABLA in November, 2010.
