The Gujarat government has recently sanctioned setting up of centre of excellence in polymer research in Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) in Vadodara.
"A centre of excellence in polymers research has been sanctioned by the Gujarat Government to Department of Applied Chemistry in Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda," Head of the department of Applied Chemistry in MSU Pradeep Deota said today.
"This centre aims at developing the plastic components through regular testing and their characterisation in various aspects of plastics for automobile applications," Deota added.

According to Deota, the excellence centre in polymers research will be useful for plastic and automobile industries around Vadodara.
"It will give boost to the facilities being provided for the training of skilled manpower which will be useful for plastic and automobile industries around the city and in the state," Deota said, adding that, the centre will be set up at a cost of Rs five crore.
Vice Chancellor of MSU Prof Yogesh Singh said the excellence centre will provide opportunities for advance research and development activities in the field of polymers.
"Vadodara city has been surrounded by many companies manufacturing polymers for various applications in automobile and this specialised centre will provide the opportunity for advanced research and development activities in the field of polymers," Singh said.
