Chairperson of Odisha State Law Commission appointed

Odisha government today appointed Justice Bijaya Kumar Nayak, a retired judge of Orissa High Court as chairperson of the Odisha State Law Commission, a notification issued by the Law Department said.

Jeeban Ballav Mishra, additional secretary, Law Department will function as the secretary to the Odisha State Law Commission, it said.

The state government had in February 2016 decided to set up the Law Commission to be headed by either a retired judge of the Supreme Court or the High Court.

Chief Secretary A P Padhi said the new panel was required to improve and revise the existing laws and enact new ones in consonance with the present scenario.
