Civic body's peon held for accepting bribe in Maha

A peon at Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) was today arrested by the sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, police said.

Rajesh Jadhav (43), peon in the water supply department of Utalsar ward of TMC, had demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe from a complainant, for providing water connection, Deputy Superintendent of police, Thane Unit of ACB, Rajesh Bagalkote said in an official release.

After negotiations, Jadhav decided to accept Rs 5,000 as bribe. Following a complaint, a trap was laid at TMC's ward office and Jadhav was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe, it said.
 

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988 was registered and investigations are underway, police said.
