Alleging that "fake cases" were being registered against Congress workers across the Amritsar parliamentary constituency, newly-elected MP Amarinder Singh today asked Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to clarify his stand on the issue.

Amarinder, who had defeated Jaitley in the Lok Sabha polls from Amritsar by a margin of over one lakh votes, alleged that several Congress workers have been implicated in false cases after the election results.

Amarinder said, so far as he knew Jaitley, he was sure that the BJP leader would not stoop so low to resort to vindictiveness and vendetta against those who did not vote for him.

Taking potshots at the Akalis, Amarinder said, "It is obvious that the Akalis were feeling not only embarrassed but frustrated also, as they had lost face before BJP and Jaitley after the latter's defeat from Amritsar."

"And now they have started venting their anger and frustration over the Congress workers realising little that this will further alienate them from the people," he said.

The former Punjab Chief Minister added that he expected a better political approach and attitude from Jaitley towards his political opponents.

"Your (Jaitley) silence will only amount to your approval to all that is being done by the alliance (SAD-BJP) government across Amritsar," he said, and warned against such actions.
