Cong for consensus on 'affirmative action' for weaker classes

Congress today favoured a nationwide discussion on 'affirmative action' for economically disadvantaged classes, irrespective of caste and religion, called for building consensus on the matter.
Congress chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala said the AICC had reiterated its position on the matter in its manifestos for Lok Sabha election in 2009 and 2014.
He, however, cautioned against changes in the existing affirmative action framework for SCs/STs and other backward classes.
Attacking RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his controversial statement on the quota issue, the Congress spokesperson said it showed that the Sangh was against reservation for SC and ST communities.
