SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal today accused the Congress government in Punjab of "trying to take credit" for development works approved by the previous dispensation.
In a statement here, he claimed that yesterday an attempt was made to "hoodwink" the people of Abohar by "re- inaugurating" an ongoing drinking water supply and sewer scheme which had been approved by the SAD-BJP government.
"Even some amount was released for the project during the SAD-BJP rule, following which the work was allocated and even started by the contractor," Sukhbir Singh Badal said.
It was unfortunate that the state government, including the chief minister and the local government minister, was trying to take credit for it by distributing cheques for projects which had not only been approved by the previous SAD-BJP government but for whom even Rs 567 crore had been released, he alleged.
Claiming that this could be an attempt to "befool" the people and divert their attention from the "anti-people" steps taken by the Congress government, the SAD chief said it would be better if the Congress government submitted a report card on its performance instead of indulging in such "tomfoolery".
He claimed that the Smart City project for Ludhiana had been inaugurated by him in November last year by giving a live demonstration of 1,442 CCTV cameras placed in 159 localities.
Sukhbir said he had also launched projects, including the Ladhowali bypass and four-laning of an elevated road from the city to Samrala chowk.
