Cong Punjab unit protests Majithia's remarks

Press Trust of India Chandigarh

Sporting black head bands, several Congressmen, including MLAs led by leader of opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar, held a candlelight march in Sector 17 - the main commercial hub of Chandigarh.

Also, five big LCDs were put up to show a video in which Majithia is purportedly making objectionable remarks against Congress MLA and sugar baron Rana Gurjeet Singh on the floor of the House.

However, two former Chief Ministers and Punjab Congress Chiefs Amarinder Singh and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal were conspicuous by their absence at the protest at the Plaza.

Jakhar told media that Congress wants to show the public the face of the Akali government in its second term in the state.

The alleged remarks were made during a debate on law and order situation in the state assembly yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Assembly Secretariat today issued a notice to the media, including print, electronic, websites and publications "regarding prohibition of telecasting/ printing of expunged/ prohibited portions."

The Assembly Secretariat notice also cautioned the media that committing "any lapse and violation of rules... in future shall be treated as breach of privilege of the house and proceedings would be initiated."
