Constable gets one year in jail for bribe of Rs 400

The district court here has sentenced a police constable attached to Mumbra police station for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 400.

Judge V V Bambarde found the constable Devidas Devkate (40) guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Devkate while passing the order yesterday.

On May 7, 2008, Devkate demanded Rs 400 from a person, against whom a non-cognisable offence had been registered, for not arresting him.

When the person approached the ACB, it laid a trap and arrested the constable.
