Copper futures traded a shade lower at Rs 429.70 per kg today as speculators reduced their positions as participants trimmed their holdings, even as the metal strengthened overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month February shed 35 paise, or 0.08 per cent, to Rs 429.70 per kg, in a business turnover of 10 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in November was down 15 paise, or 0.04 per cent, to Rs 429.70 per kg in 1,301 lots.

Globally, copper for three-month delivery ended 0.4 per cent at USD 6,438 per tonne at the London Metal Exchange.
Analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to cutting down of positions by participants at prevailing levels.
