Corporation deputy mayor takes charge as mayor

The City Corporation Council today registered and accepted the resignation of Mayor, S M Velusamy, submitted on May 27, following his removal from the post of urban district secretary of the AIADMK.

At a special meeting of the council, convened to register the resignation, Deputy Mayor, Leelavathi Unni, was given the in-charge of the Mayor.

All the 80 AIADMK councillors were present at the meeting. The deputy mayor can hold the charge of mayor for six months, official sources said.
