Couple awarded life term for kidnapping minor boy

A district court has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for kidnapping a 5-year-old boy from Naya Bans area here in 2012 and demanding ransom.

Deepak and Sangeeta were convicted by the court yesterday for kidnapping the minor boy and demanding a ransom of Rs 4 lakh for his release, government counsel Mohammad Irshad said.

"The couple had kidnapped Mahinder Singh's son on January 24, 2012, and demanded a ransom of Rs 4 lakh for the child's release. The kidnappers were nabbed by police through electronic surveillancethat helped in tracing their location," he said.
