Couple commits suicide in Punjab

A couple allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a canal near Gajikot in the district here, police said today.

Amanat Masih and his wife Chhabi, residents of Bhangwa village, jumped into the canal last night, they said.

The couple, in their mid 40s, had two sons and a daughter, police said, adding, that Masih was a labourer and poverty drove the couple to take the extreme step.

The bodies were later fished out from the canal, police said.
