In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old man, his wife and their son were charred to death here after the wooden shack in which they lived caught fire, police said.

The incident took place late last night in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Timber Market.

The deceased were identified as Jai Rajwade (40), his wife Seema (35) and their son Aman (11).

Jai, native of Ambikapur, worked as watchman at a godown located in the timber market and lived in a wooden shack on the same premises, police said.

Police suspect that embers in the firewood stove used by the family to cook meals caused the fire.

Additional District Magistrate Renuka Shrivastav said a compensation of Rs 4 lakh would be given to the kin of deceased.
