A guard of a cow shelter in Barsana town here died after he was allegedly shot by miscreants during a scuffle, following which agitated villagers blocked Govardhan road for over two hours.

The villagers lifted the blockade after an assurance of giving compensation to his family and arrest of the accused by the police, a senior police official said today, adding that one person, identified as Lakhan has been arrested.

The incident took place yesterday when the accused along with some others got into a scuffle with the guard of Mataji Goushala.

Following this, he along with his companions opened fire on the premises in which the guard, Banwari died on the spot.

"The main assailant Lakhan has been arrested and efforts are on to nab others," DSP Atul Kumar Shrivastav said.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Surenderpal Singh said that efforts would be made to provide relief to the bereaved family from Chief Minister's relief fund.
